Dr. Jeffrey Hoag is a pulmonologist and intensivist at our hospital in Philadelphia, who also serves as Chair of the CTCA® Department of Medicine. As an expert in diagnosing and treating respiratory diseases, Dr. Hoag helps care for patients with lung cancer and other forms of cancer affecting the lungs. He also provides care to patients who have pulmonary issues such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis, pneumonia, pulmonary hypertension and others.

Board certified in pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine, palliative and hospice medicine, and internal medicine, Dr. Hoag earned his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, where he also received a Master of Science degree in physiology. His bachelor’s degree is in biology from the University of Richmond.

Dr. Hoag completed an internal medicine internship and residency at Virginia Commonwealth University Hospital, where he received awards for scholarship and as an outstanding resident. He completed fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine at The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Dr. Hoag is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia where he is the Associate Director of the Jefferson Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center.  He serves on the Board of Trustees for Jefferson’s Magee Rehabilitation Hospital and Jefferson New Jersey Hospitals. 

Dr. Hoag has been a principal and sub-investigator for multiple clinical trials. He has been published in journals such as The American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Chest, and Critical Care Medicine and the Journal of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology. He also serves as a reviewer for several clinical journals, and has been selected as a Best Doctor in America® for multiple years. He is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, Society of Critical Care Medicine, and The American Thoracic Society.
