As a Hospital Epidemiologist and Infectious Diseases Physician at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA), Dr. David Scheck oversees diagnosing and treating infectious diseases and establishing procedures and practices to reduce the risk for infections. He manages a broad array of diseases caused by germs, ranging from flu to pneumonia. Infections are one of the greatest risks to patients undergoing treatments for cancer.

Dr. Scheck has been consulting at CTCA® Tulsa since 1994. In January 2019, he joined the hospital full time. Board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases, Dr. Scheck is dedicated to using advanced diagnostic techniques and tools.

“CTCA Tulsa is fortunate to have onsite microbiology technicians and services,” says Dr. Scheck. “This improves the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases for our patients. They have access to the most advanced diagnostic testing through our onsite laboratory, as well as collaborative relationships with local and national reference laboratories.”

Dr. Scheck is also involved with a strong local and enterprise-level antibiotic stewardship program that seeks to increase the use and exposure of antibiotics for patients. In collaboration with the microbiology laboratory and pharmacy team, he works to improve outcomes for patients with infectious diseases and reduce complications from excessive inappropriate antibiotic exposure.

Dr. Scheck received a Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. He earned his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida. Dr. Scheck completed an internship and residency in internal medicine from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama, where he also served as Chief Resident. He went on to complete a fellowship in infectious diseases at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama, and served as Chief Fellow.

Dr. Scheck has completed several research publications and clinical investigations. Through ongoing education and training, he stays up to date on new technologies and advanced diagnostic options. He also has been recognized as a top doctor in infectious diseases by Castle Connolly.

Dr. Scheck enjoys traveling and exploring the world. He has had the opportunity to visit many places, including Africa, China, Tibet and Europe. He believes that traveling keeps him humble, expands his curiosity about life, and refreshes his belief in the goodness of humanity.
Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
