“My goal is to help Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) patients through diagnosis and surgical treatment for disorders of the central and peripheral nervous system,” says Dr. Daniel Harwell, a Neurosurgeon at CTCA® Tulsa. “Working with patients, I incorporate the latest advances in surgical techniques, technologies and treatment options, when appropriate.”

Dr. Harwell evaluates and treats patients experiencing neurological symptoms stemming from cancer or its treatment. He works with a variety of cancer types, including brain, spine and other cancer types that metastasize to the brain.

Dr. Harwell’s areas of special interest include minimally invasive and degenerative spine conditions. He also performs complex surgery for scoliosis and spine trauma, as well as brain and spinal tumors. Dr. Harwell uses cranial and spinal computer navigation for various neurological conditions, when appropriate.

Dr. Harwell received a bachelor’s degree in zoology-biomedical science from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. He earned a medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and completed a residency in neurosurgery at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio.  He then completed a fellowship in complex spine surgery at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Throughout his medical school career, Dr. Harwell has been devoted to providing continuity of health care to the under-served population in Oklahoma by volunteering his time to several organizations. Dr. Harwell is member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, AO Spine and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Dr. Harwell is focused on research, serving as principal and co-investigator in many clinical trials. He has been published in journals and presents frequently at lectures, rounds and seminars.

Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
