Dr. Christopher Wigfield is a Thoracic Surgeon at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA). He joined the hospital in suburban Chicago, Illinois in July 2019.

Dr. Wigfield focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the chest through surgical treatment options.

Dr. Wigfield is part of a multidisciplinary team of doctors and clinicians at CTCA® focused on treating lung cancer, esophageal cancer and other diseases of the chest. Using modern surgical advances, he operates on organs in the chest, including the lungs, mediastinum and esophagus. When possible, Dr. Wigfield uses minimally invasive procedures designed to reduce recovery time, such as video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) and robotic-assisted technology.

Treating patients with great respect is important to Dr. Wigfield. “I believe it is essential to get to know my patients and empower them to learn as much as they can about their disease and treatment options,” says Dr. Wigfield. “I treat my patients as I would treat any member of my own family.”

Dr. Wigfield completed a medical degree from The Freie Universitaet in Berlin, Germany and a research dissertation for a degree in the theory of medicine at the University of Newcastle in the United Kingdom.

Board certified in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery in the United Kingdom, Dr. Wigfield has previously worked in a variety of settings, including major hospitals and universities. He has been reviewed in several journals and is a published author. Dr. Wigfield is a member of many professional organizations, including the Society of Thoracic Surgery, International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation and Clinical Robotic Surgery Association.

Dr. Wigfield continuously furthers his education by staying up to date on new treatments and incorporating those insights into his practice. He speaks multiple languages, including German. He lives with his family in Illinois.

Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
