Dr. Bharat Puchakayala is a Gastroenterologist at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA), Atlanta, focused on a broad spectrum of cancers that affect the digestive system. Puchakayala joined CTCA® in August 2018. He uses a number of tests, screens and procedures to diagnose and stage cancer before developing an individualized care plan.

 “My goal is to provide quality care, recent innovation, medical expertise and personalized support to my patients,” says Dr. Puchakayala. “CTCA is designed and managed to help me deliver whole-person care focused not only on treating the cancer but also on addressing physical comfort, as well as emotional well-being.”

Dr. Puchakayala received his medical degree from the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, India. While there, he was awarded the gold medal in microbiology for having the highest score on the university examination and was selected for the short-term research studentship by the Indian Council of Medical Research. He completed a master’s degree in public health at Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri.

At the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Dr. Puchakayala completed a residency in internal medicine. He worked as an internist and was the director of education at Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru, Illinois, before moving to New York. There, he completed fellowships in hepatology research and gastroenterology at the New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.

Dr. Puchakayala has presented on digestive topics at national conferences and has been published in various medical journals, including Gastroenterology, Gundersen Medical Journal, World Journal of Hepatology and Digestive Diseases and Sciences. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Gastroenterological Association, American College of Gastroenterology and American College of Physicians.

Dr. Puchakayala joined Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates in 2017, as a full time gastroenterologist. He practices at CTCA on a part-time basis as part of a collaborative partnership.

In addition to English, he is fluent in both Hindi and Telugu.
