Board certified in medical oncology, internal medicine and hematology, Dr. Srilata Gundala brings over 20 years of experience to her position as Medical Oncologist at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) Outpatient Care Center in Downtown Chicago. The center, located in the Streeterville neighborhood, offers patients in and around Chicagoland convenient access to personalized cancer treatment.
Dr. Gundala is seeing oncology patients at the Downtown Chicago location. She has significant expertise in benign and malignant hematology and general oncology, and she has a particular interest in treating gastrointestinal malignancies, lymphoma and multiple myeloma.
Dr. Gundala believes in listening to her patients and addressing both their medical and emotional needs. “Working in partnership with my patients, I determine the treatments that can offer comprehensive options tailored to their needs, while monitoring how they respond and making appropriate adjustments if and when needed,” she says.
She is committed to providing patient-centered care at CTCA®, using both standard-of-care and innovative cancer treatment options. “Cancer is life-altering and affects individuals both physically and emotionally,” Dr. Gundala says. “Yet these are exciting times for cancer patients, with recent advances in the field of oncology offering more treatment options and tremendous hope for patients living with cancer.”
Coming from a long line of doctors, Dr. Gundala graduated from Osmania Medical College in Andhra Pradesh, India. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Saint Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, then went on to complete a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Gundala is also affiliated with several Chicago-area hospitals. She has served as chairman of the Cancer Committee and director of the Provena St. Mary Cancer Center, as well as co-chairman of the Cancer Committee at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. In an effort to improve quality of care, she developed and implemented quality control projects in colon cancer and breast cancer as medical program standards director at Elmhurst Hospital. Dr. Gundala’s work has been published in numerous publications, and she’s been heavily involved in cancer-related research.
Dr. Gundala speaks English, Hindi and Telugu. She enjoys teaching medical students and college graduates. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading and cooking.
Patient ratings and comments
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
