As Samantha Edwards was working toward her doctorate in naturopathic medicine, she helped a friend who was her age through cancer treatment. The experience inspired her to learn more about how naturopathic medicine could be used in conjunction with cancer treatments to help people feel stronger throughout their fight and have fewer side effects.
“I knew I wanted to join Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) because they are constantly raising the bar when it comes to providing patient-focused, integrative cancer care," says Edwards.
Edwards completed her residency in naturopathic oncology at CTCA® Tulsa. She completed a series of oncology-focused rotations with staff naturopathic clinicians, medical oncologists and other specialists. She is also board certified in naturopathic oncology (FABNO).
In July 2014, Edwards joined the cancer experts at CTCA Chicago. She provides personalized naturopathic recommendations for natural therapies (e.g., vitamins, minerals, herbal medicines) that are safe and appropriate to pair with conventional cancer treatments.
“My goals for patients are to guide them toward better health decisions, educate and empower them, fight alongside them through their cancer treatment, and use appropriate natural therapies to enhance their bodies’ innate healing response,” she says.
Edwards earned a doctorate degree in naturopathic medicine from National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Illinois, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Edwards is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians and the Illinois Association of Naturopathic Physicians.
When she is not at CTCA, Edwards enjoys spending time with her husband and son, playing the piano and violin, and cooking.
Patient ratings and comments
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
