“When we are relaxed and free from stress, the body is better able to heal,” says Nicole Perez, Reiki Therapist at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) near Chicago. “Reiki helps provide that relaxation and may also help relieve pain.”
Perez earned her Bachelor of Arts in Women’s & Gender Studies and a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies at DePaul University in Chicago. She studied Reiki at Mystical Sciences Institute in Evanston, Illinois, where she obtained Reiki Practitioner Certification and Reiki Master Teacher Certification.
In 2011, Perez founded a private Reiki practice, where she works with individuals facing many different issues, including terminal illness. She teaches individual and group classes and provides private consultations. She also serves as a Teaching Assistant at Mystical Sciences Institute. Through her private practice work, she became particularly focused on working with cancer patients and their caregivers. She joined CTCA® in October 2014.
Perez is trained in numerous aspects of complementary healing, including reflexology and Ayurvedic head massage.
At CTCA, Perez provides Reiki therapy to patients and caregivers. “Reiki is used to promote general relaxation, stress relief and pain relief,” Perez explains. She also provides Reiki Phowa services to those seeking support through end-of-life transitions. “And I am also here to lend support or even just a listening ear,” she says.
When she is not at CTCA, Perez practices yoga, meditation, tai chi and qigong. In the summer months, she enjoys kayaking and walking along the shores of Lake Michigan.
Patient Ratings and Comments
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical oncologists and radiation oncologists. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
