Jalpa Patel, a surgical oncology physician assistant, says it was the quality of care patients receive at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) that drew her to work for CTCA®. She says, “I believe patients should always come first, and CTCA has proven that time and again.”
After Patel obtained a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems from DeVry University in Addison, Illinois in 2002, she shifted her academic focus to biology and patient care. She completed preliminary coursework at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines, Illinois and earned a master’s degree in physician assistant practice from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Illinois in 2009. In addition to her coursework, Patel’s training included clerkships in internal medicine, emergency medicine, general surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery and other departments in eight hospitals and health clinics throughout the Chicago area.
Previously, Patel served as a cardiovascular and thoracic surgery physician assistant with medical facilities in Missouri and Wisconsin. In addition to serving as first assistant during surgeries, she provided pre- and postoperative care, conducted daily rounds for inpatients and provided follow-up examinations for outpatients. She joined CTCA in January 2012.
Patel is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She holds Drug Enforcement Agency certification, and is certified in basic life support and advanced cardiovascular life support.
At CTCA, Patel works with several surgical oncologists, in addition to other care providers. She oversees the care of patients prior to and following surgery, providing support during their recovery. She ensures patients and caregivers are equipped with the information they need about the recovery process.
In her free time, Patel enjoys shopping, traveling, photography and spending time with her husband and two children. She is fluent in English, Gujarati and Hindi.
Patient ratings and comments
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
