Brianna Welbourn, Speech-Language Pathologist at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA), Chicago, is focused on helping patients restore their function and independence. “My goal is to assist in improving quality of life by providing education and treatment to help my patients achieve and sustain their ability to function throughout their cancer journey,” says Welbourn.
She joined CTCA® in December 2017, primarily working in the inpatient area of the hospital, assessing, diagnosing, treating and educating patients with swallowing, speech, language or cognition impairments. She also assists with evaluation and treatment planning in the outpatient setting, as needed. Welbourn mainly works with patients who have dementia, head and neck cancer, brain tumors and metastases.
“I love working with the patients at CTCA,” says Welbourn. “Patients here are all eager to work hard and improve their quality of life. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to work closely and personally with my patients to help them identify and achieve their goals.”
Welbourn graduated summa cum laude from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in Whitewater, Wisconsin, where she received a bachelor’s degree in communicative sciences and disorders. She went on to receive a master’s degree in speech, language and learning from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
Welbourn holds a certificate in clinical competence in speech language pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Before joining CTCA, she gained clinical experience in a variety of medical and academic settings.
Welbourn enjoys spending time with friends and family and likes traveling and hiking. She is an avid sports fan and cheers for the Chicago White Sox, Bears, Blackhawks, Northwestern and Notre Dame.
Patient ratings and comments
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
