Airway stent for lung cancer

Airway stents for lung cancer

If other treatments are not effective at relieving your symptoms or treating airway blockages, your doctor may place a stent to maintain an open airway and help you breathe better.

What is an airway stent?

A stent is a tiny tube made of silicone, metal or a combination of both that your doctor may use to open an airway before or after other therapeutic treatments.

Stent placement is performed in an endoscopy suite by an experienced interventional pulmonologist. The interventional pulmonologist will use a bronchoscope (a flexible tube with a camera at the end) to look inside the airway and insert either a plastic or metal stent.
