Chemotherapy for kidney cancer
Although chemotherapy is instrumental to treating many types of cancer, it has proven ineffective in treating clear cell carcinoma. The only instance where your medical oncologist will administer chemotherapy is if you have been diagnosed with renal sarcoma, which is an extremely rare form of kidney cancer.
Your care team has many options in treating your kidney cancer, including immunotherapy, surgery and targeted therapy. In some instances, stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) may be used, as well. Together, you and your team will develop a treatment plan based on your individualized needs.
