Our services

Many cancer patients experience gastrointestinal symptoms. The nutrition therapy team works with our patients to help restore digestive health, and prevent malnutrition and nutrient deficiencies, during treatment. Our goal is to help you stay strong and nourished, so you may continue with your cancer treatment.

Every patient has the option of meeting with a registered dietitian. During this visit, one of our dietitians will give you a comprehensive nutritional assessment to identify daily goals for calories and protein, as well as vitamins and minerals. The dietitian will look at your health history, disease type and treatment plan to recommend nourishing foods during your cancer care.

The dietitian will work with your care team to monitor your nutrition status from the beginning to the end of your cancer treatment, making modifications as needed to help address side effects and prevent treatment interruptions before they arise.

Our dietitians communicate regularly with the oncologists and other members of the patient’s cancer team. Working together in close proximity allows for an integrated approach at the heart of the Mother Standard® of care approach to treating cancer. Your dietitian will alert other members of your care team, such as your medical oncologist, to specific nutrition challenges you may be experiencing. The team works together to identify solutions designed to meet your individual needs.

Advanced Surgical Recovery (ASURE) program

Many surgical patients have difficulty eating or getting the proper nutrients they need after surgery. Our ASURE program is designed to help patients recover from surgery more quickly and with fewer complications. Nutritional support is a key component of ASURE. The program typically allows patients to drink clear liquids up to two hours before surgery to help keep them hydrated. After surgery, patients are typically encouraged to chew gum and eat within 24 hours. These and other enhanced recovery methods are designed to help patients recover their strength sooner and reduce the overall length of their hospital stay.
