“This is a special place to work,” says Raquel Oliveira, Physical Therapist at Cancer Treatment Centers of America ® (CTCA), Chicago. “Our cancer patients at CTCA® share their hope and trust with me. As a therapist, I work daily to appreciate, honor and merit that gift.”

At CTCA, Oliveira provides individualized therapies designed to address movement difficulties that may develop as a result of cancer or its treatment. She works with inpatients to help restore functional independence and improve quality of life after surgery and other treatments. Oliveira collaborates with the inpatient rehabilitation team and other disciplines to provide compassionate care.

Oliveira completed her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, in 2000. She then spent three years in a doctor of philosophy program at Harvard Medical School. In 2003, she withdrew from the biomedical sciences program after realizing that it was not the right career path for her. Oliveira then taught English to Taiwanese schoolchildren for a year. Upon returning to the United States, she discovered that her various interests came together in the field of physical therapy. In 2009, Oliveira obtained a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania.

Oliveira worked for five years in Florida as an acute inpatient rehabilitation therapist. In 2014, she moved to Illinois and began her career at CTCA.

Oliveira was born in Brazil as the daughter of missionaries. Her family relocated to the United States when she was in high school. When she is not at CTCA, Oliveira enjoys spending time with family and friends, as well as reading, gardening, creating art and treasure hunting at thrift stores.

Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
