Angella Popinga was drawn to working at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) because of her mother's 10-year battle with breast cancer. Her mother was diagnosed when Popinga was just 9 years old and died 10 years later during Popinga's sophomore year of college.

"I wish my mother would have had the opportunity to experience the hope, compassion, advanced technology and the Mother Standard® of care that is demonstrated each and every day at CTCA®," Popinga says. "She would have been amazed!"

Popinga has been an occupational therapist for more than 20 years and is a certified lymphedema therapist. She joined CTCA Atlanta in Newnan, Georgia, in July 2013.

Popinga worked in North Dakota, where she grew up, and Minnesota before coming to CTCA. She has provided occupational therapy in a variety of settings, including the VA Medical Center in Fargo; the public school system in Moorhead, Minnesota; an adult/child psychiatric facility in Fargo; and skilled nursing facilities in North Dakota and Minnesota.

Popinga earned her Bachelor of Science degree in occupational therapy at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks in 1992.

As an occupational therapist, Popinga's goal is to help patients be as independent and functional as possible so they can actively participate in everyday tasks, such as getting out of bed, getting dressed and getting ready for the day.

"I am blessed with the opportunity to make a positive difference in someone's life each day," Popinga says.

Through her family's journey with cancer, Popinga has learned what is truly important in life. When things get stressful in Popinga's life, she can hear her mom say, "This, too, shall pass."

"It helps keep the day in perspective," Popinga says. "I have learned to be grateful each day and appreciate the positives."

Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
