September 24, 2019

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (September 24, 2019) — Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) in Philadelphia, part of a national comprehensive cancer care network of hospitals and outpatient care centers, today announced that Maria Scenna has been hired as its new chief operating officer (COO), effective October 7, 2019. Scenna joins the CTCA® executive leadership team after serving as chief executive officer at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, during which time she led the hospital through unprecedented industry change and helped the organization transition to a new ownership group. Bringing more than three decades of experience and influence in the healthcare arena to CTCA, Scenna also held various roles at local hospitals including Hahnemann University Hospital, People’s Emergency Center and St. Mary Medical Center.

“We are thrilled to welcome Maria to CTCA Philadelphia and are energized by the experience she will bring to our organization,” said Nancy Hesse, president and CEO of CTCA Philadelphia. “Her passion and tenacity for building a culture where physicians and staff can care for patients as individuals beyond their illness aligns seamlessly with our patient-centered care model. I have no doubt we will continue to thrive with her as part of CTCA’s leadership as we provide innovative, individualized cancer care to patients in Philadelphia and beyond.”

As COO, Scenna will provide the leadership and coordination required to ensure outstanding patient care throughout the facility, through the delivery of high-quality, value-based care and services. Her key roles also include leadership, planning, direction and administrative support to ensure strategic goals and department performance indicators are achieved.

“It’s such a natural fit for me to transition to CTCA from St. Christopher’s,” said Scenna. “Both hospitals pride themselves on care centered around the patient, and their family, to encourage wellness and healing. I’m excited to join CTCA, which has as an incredible reputation not only for expert cancer treatment, but for forming life-changing relationships that impact patients and families. I look forward to leveraging my experience in taking on a terrible disease that touches all of our lives.”

Scenna concludes her time at St. Christopher’s on October 3, 2019.
