Stomach cancer care

DISCOVER OUR DIFFERENCE IN PERSONALIZED CANCER TREATMENT

We treat each stomach cancer holistically. That’s because, at City of Hope, we know that every cancer is as unique as the person who has it.
Our multidisciplinary team of cancer experts is trained in diagnosing and treating every type and stage of the disease. They’ll work with you to develop a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to your individual needs, preferences and goals. Your treatment may include conventional therapies like surgery and radiation therapy—either alone or in combination—along with supportive care services designed to reduce disease- and treatment-related side effects. Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) is now City of Hope®, joining forces to expand patient access to personalized, comprehensive cancer care.

How are we different?

Stomach cancer focus

At the GI Cancer Centers at City of Hope Atlanta, Chicago and Phoenix, our singular focus is on diagnosing and treating cancers of the digestive tract. Our collaborative care team works with you to deliver quality clinical care with a patient-centered approach. Your care team will be led by a gastroenterologist and may also include a surgical oncologist, a medical oncologist and a team of supportive care clinicians. Because of stomach cancer’s impact on the digestive tract, this may include nutritional support to help you combat nausea or other symptoms that may affect your ability or desire to eat.

Comprehensive team approach

Your stomach cancer care team works all under one roof. That means you have access to state-of-the-art cancer treatments and supportive care therapies all in one location. Your team will be led by a medical oncologist, and your treatment plan is coordinated by a care manager dedicated to orchestrating your schedule, communicating with the rest of your care team, getting your questions answered and helping you access your test results in a timely manner. Your care team may also include a surgical and/or radiation oncologist, an interventional radiologist, oncology nurses and a variety of supportive care providers.

Whole-person care

Our doctors work with supportive care providers to deliver evidence-informed therapies designed to address the symptoms of your disease and the side effects of treatment. That’s what integrative care is all about: keeping you strong so you can better tolerate your treatments and maintain a good quality of life. Our supportive care services include nutritional and naturopathic support to help develop a diet plan and offer supplements to help you stay nourished, while pain management physicians offer medication and non-medicinal approaches to help you keep your pain in check. And our spiritual support and behavioral health providers are available to help support your mental and emotional health before, during and after treatment.

Access to clinical trials

Clinical trials are critical tools researchers and doctors use to determine the safety and effectiveness of new drugs and therapies. At City of Hope, we’re committed to offering our patients innovative and new cancer treatments, including access to clinical trials when appropriate. These trials may provide therapies that are not yet widely available to qualified patients who have exhausted conventional treatment options or whose cancer is advanced or difficult to treat. Our cancer doctors and researchers will work with you to determine whether you qualify for a trial and, if so, help you enroll.

I took advantage of several supportive services offered at City of Hope Chicago to combat my side effects. I also worked with pastoral care throughout my treatment."
