About CTCA - Research
Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) conducts clinical trials initiated by our physicians, as well as those that are sponsored by contract research organizations on behalf of entities such as pharmaceutical companies.
Our physicians may develop research trials, which can provide some of our patients with access to innovative treatments before they are widely available. Through our research efforts, we also continue to learn new ways to optimize our patients’ care and help improve their quality of life.
Included below are summaries of two clinical studies currently being conducted at CTCA.
Ovarian Cancer Vaccine Clinical Trial
Currently, CTCA at Midwestern Regional Medical Center is conducting a phase I/II study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a personalized, ovarian cancer vaccine for patients with recurrent and chemotherapy-resistant, late stage disease. The study has been reviewed and cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. CTCA patients undergoing treatment for stage III or IV ovarian cancer that have tumor progression, despite at least one, but no more than two chemotherapy regimens, may be eligible to participate in the study based on inclusion and exclusion criteria.
Lung Cancer Clinical Trial
Dr. Daniel Nader, National Clinical Director of Pulmonary/Critical Care at CTCA, is conducting a study for advanced-stage lung cancer at the Lung Center at CTCA at Southwestern Regional Medical Center. This patient-focused clinical trial combines radiation therapy with intratumoral chemotherapy.
In the study, cisplatin (the intratumoral chemotherapy) is injected directly into the patient’s tumor, allowing the tumor to become more sensitive when exposed to High-Dose Rate (HDR) brachytherapy, the second portion of the lung cancer treatment.
