About CTCA - Mother Standard® of Care
The origins of our treatment philosophy at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) go back more than 25 years. It was at that time when our founder, Richard J Stephenson, suffered the loss of his beloved mother, Mary Brown Stephenson, to cancer.
Disappointed by the impersonal and insensitive care his mother received, Mr. Stephenson vowed to change the face of cancer care. He selected a group of outstanding oncologists and practitioners and challenged them to find a way to provide whole-person cancer treatment in a compassionate, nurturing environment under one roof.
Mr. Stephenson founded a hospital in northern Illinois, where the CTCA model of care was first implemented. He ensured its success by keeping his staff members focused on one thing—making a difference in the lives of people living with cancer.
Since then, the experts at CTCA have been committed to revolutionizing cancer care and delivering the Mother Standard® of care every day. More than the gold standard, the Mother Standard® reflects the way we would want our own mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, or other loved ones to be treated if they had cancer.
At CTCA, we only hire employees (everyone from our clinicians to our housekeeping staffs) who are absolutely committed to providing this unprecedented level of care.
