Registered dietitian Stephanie Paver knew she found a healthcare organization that aligned with her own philosophy of patient care when she discovered Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA). Working with other clinicians in an integrated team setting to provide quality care is what Paver has always strived to do, and at CTCA, she’s able to live out that approach to patient care every day.
“My day begins with a team meeting comprised of the medical oncologist, naturopathic oncology provider, nurse, care manager and mind-body therapist,” she says. “We discuss each patient’s case for the day. Each care provider offers insight about the patient that is specific to his or her specialty.”
Paver joined CTCA in early 2010 as a member of the nutrition metabolic support team at our Zion, Illinois hospital—CTCA at Midwestern Regional Medical Center. There she was empowered to help develop a program for diabetic patients. “There was an evident need to help patients manage their diabetes, whether it was long standing or newly diagnosed," says Paver. "Since diabetes can affect how one feels and how quickly one heals, patients must learn to modify food choices and eating patterns to control the disease.”
In July 2012, Paver transferred to our hospital in Goodyear, Arizona, where she is currently the Lead Oncology Dietitian. In this role, Paver provides patient care in the inpatient and outpatient setting, while also supporting the registered dietitians in clinical skill development and annual competency evaluation and coaching.
Paver is board certified in nutrition support and oncology nutrition. She also has a certificate of training in adult weight management.
Paver graduated with honors from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in dietetics. She then completed a dietetic internship at Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital in Hines, Illinois. She is actively pursuing a master’s degree in nutrition at Arizona State University.
Guided by the adage, “Let thy food be thy medicine,” Paver practices what she preaches about nutrition. She enjoys yoga, dancing, working out and cooking in her free time.
