“The most important thing we do is listen to our patients and support them along their journey,” says Dr. John H. Farley, a gynecologic oncologist with Cancer Treatment Centers of
America® (CTCA) at Western Regional Medical Center (Western). “Our job is to help them feel better mentally, physically and emotionally, and steer them towards conquest.”
Dr. Farley, a United States Military Academy graduate, earned a medical degree from Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Maryland. He then
completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology and a fellowship in gynecologic oncology, both at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
As an employed physician with St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, Dr. Farley maintains numerous academic appointments including professorships with Creighton University, USUHS and University of Arizona Schools of Medicine. He is also associated with University of Arizona Cancer Center at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, where he also practices. During his time in the military, Dr. Farley
also completed non-academic appointments, including serving as the Commander of Health Care at the Detainee Facility at Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan and the Assistant Chief of the
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii. He is currently an Ovarian Cancer Research Program committee member for Congressionally Directed
Medical Research Programs. Prior to joining CTCA, he was a gynecologic oncologist at a hospital in Arizona.
Dr. Farley has been invited to give presentations at many events, including as a speaker for Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Weekend in Washington, D.C.; American Association for Cancer Research; and American Society of Clinical Oncology in
Chicago. The topics of his presentations ranged from gynecological malignancies to updates in cervical and ovarian cancer. He has also spoken at the International Meeting of the
European Society of Gynaecological Oncology, Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He is on the
editorial board for Gynecological Oncology, and has published numerous journals and book chapters, such as the Journal of Clinical Oncology and Prognostic and Predictive
Factors in Gynecologic Cancers. In addition to treating at Western, Dr. Farley also works at the University of Arizona Cancer Center at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix.
Highly decorated in his military career and elsewhere, Dr. Farley has earned a Legion of Merit Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Order of Military
Medical Merit and an APGO Excellence in Teaching Award. He has conducted research on cervical cancer, ovarian cancer and general gynecologic cancer, and is a member of Gynecologic Oncology Group and Society of Gynecologic Oncologists. He is also a member of American College of Surgeons, American Society of Clinical Oncologists and American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
