A naturopathic physician at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Western Regional Medical Center (Western), Dr. Jeffrey A. Sager is part of a unique approach to patient care. In describing what makes the Naturopathic Medicine Program at Western unique, Dr. Sager says it is “our strong foundation and commitment to integrative cancer care and our patient-centered approach.”
Dr. Sager has extensive training in a range of naturopathic treatment modalities, including clinical nutrition, vitamin/mineral and amino acid therapies, botanical medicine, homeopathic medicine, hydrotherapy and physical medicine.
Dr. Sager earned a doctor of naturopathic medicine degree from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine & Health Sciences in Tempe, Arizona. In addition to his pre-medical coursework, he also holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Antioch University New England (formerly Antioch New England Graduate School) in Keene, New Hampshire. Dr. Sager holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Keene State College, where he graduated magna cum laude.
Dr. Sager’s clinical training and community involvement demonstrates his personal commitment to integrative medicine and patient care. Prior to joining CTCA, Dr. Sager spent several years as the only naturopathic physician on staff with privileges on an inpatient psychiatric unit at the Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester in Manchester, New Hampshire. Among his responsibilities there, Dr. Sager led mind-body medicine group programs for chronic pain sufferers.
Prior to this position, Dr. Sager served in private practice as a naturopathic physician in Londonderry, New Hampshire. He also completed various clinical internships in integrated medical center environments. In addition, he helped to design, launch and expand a 400-bed AIDS hospice program at a Buddhist temple in Thailand.
Dr. Sager joined the Naturopathic Medicine Department at CTCA at Eastern Regional Medical Center in Philadelphia in August 2007. He transferred to Western in April 2009. Reinforcing the goal of CTCA to treat the whole person, not just the cancer, Dr. Sager says his overall goal for patients is “to provide the best naturopathic care, as part of an integrative team approach, to support the patient on all levels.”
Dr. Sager is board certified in naturopathic oncology and is a Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology. He is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) and the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians (OncANP).
