After receiving a diagnosis of cancer, all the information you receive may be overwhelming to you. At CTCA at Western Regional Medical Center (Western), we help you gather information and make educated decisions regarding your cancer treatment options. The knowledgeable staff in Western’s Patient Education Department ensures that you stay informed regarding essential components of your comprehensive treatment plan.

Educators

At Western, we believe in providing you with the tools you need to begin the healing process. We do this in part by offering conventional cancer treatments alongside various complementary therapies such as nutrition, naturopathic medicine, mind-body medicine, and spiritual support. We also support you by providing you with cancer education experts that guide you throughout your journey.

Sandra Davidson leads our educational division at the Western hospital. Before joining Western as the Organizational Development and Clinical Education Specialist, Davidson served as an oncology nurse, nurse educator, and clinical nurse specialist in gerontology. Aside from the knowledge Davidson brings from years of experience in the healthcare field, she is also nearing the completion of her Ph.D. in Leadership Studies.

“I joined CTCA because I am passionate about providing the best possible care to patients and their families. To be in an organization where that is the entire focus is empowering and just amazing,” says Davidson.

You can reach out to our educational specialists at any time during your stay at Western. After you go back home, this team is happy to continue serving you via phone or email conversations. This is one example of our Mother Standard® of care in action.

Empowerment

Your care team at Western takes every measure to ensure that you are informed and empowered to make decisions. Doctors, nurses, and other clinicians take their time to answer your questions during scheduled appointments. Outside of regularly scheduled appointments, your care manager steps in to fill the gaps. Should you have questions or concerns, you can call or email your care manager. This individual will then contact the appropriate doctor or clinician and will gather information for you so that you don’t have to worry about the hassle.

Davidson explains, “Our model here at Western is to provide education to our clients when the need arises or when it is most appropriate. Because Western is growing right now, we currently offer one-on-one sessions. In the future, we will offer group sessions on selected topics.”
