Dr. Joel L. Granick

Dr. Joel Granick is a medical oncologist at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Western Regional Medical Center (Western). In discussing his role, Dr. Granick shows he is not afraid to get close to his patients: “At CTCA, I get to know the whole patient, not just their cancer," he says.

Dr. Granick earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. He subsequently earned a medical degree from State University of New York in Brooklyn.

Following medical school, Dr. Granick completed an internship and residency at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (part of the University of Pennsylvania Health System) in Philadelphia. He also completed a hematology fellowship at Kings County Hospital, SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York.

In addition, Dr. Granick completed postdoctoral fellowship at The Rockefeller University in New York, where he later served as Assistant Professor and Chief Resident Physician. He has also been published in numerous medical journals and is the founding member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Care.

Dr. Granick has been with CTCA since 1992. Prior to joining the care team at Western, Dr. Granick served as the Director of Oncology Services and Palliative Care at CTCA at Midwestern Regional Medical Center.

 “I work with patients who have been mistreated elsewhere because their pain is not under control," says Dr. Granick. "I find great satisfaction in relieving pain, suffering and discomfort. This provides such a significant improvement in a patient's quality of life in such a great way.”
