Dr. Edmund Simon, a radiation oncologist at CTCA at Western Regional Medical Center, believes that open communication is the key to developing an individualized treatment plan for patients. He describes: “From the start of the first patient encounter, establishing a rapport is a must. I want them to leave our meeting feeling as comfortable as possible and understanding their treatment options and potential side effects.”
Dr. Simon earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Miami. From there, he moved to Toledo, Ohio to attend medical school at the Medical College of Ohio within the University of Toledo. After earning his medical degree, Dr. Simon accepted an internship in internal medicine at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. He then completed a residency within the Department of Radiation Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.
Steadily involved in clinical explorations, Dr. Simon’s accolades include research in lung cancer treatment, gastrointestinal tumors, IGRT and prostate Visicoil™ markers, and FDG-PET treatment planning. He has also participated in scientific research involving prostate cancer. Dr. Simon is a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and is certified by the American Board of Radiology.
Dr. Simon’s accomplishments include publications aligning with his research interests, as well as poster presentations delivered at annual meetings for the American Society for Therapeutic Radiation Oncology and American Radium Society, among other organizations.
Prior to joining CTCA, Dr. Simon served as a radiation oncologist for a medical group in Knoxville, Tennessee and as a physician guest lecturer in the local area.

He states: “Our equipment allows tremendous flexibility in customizing radiation planning to each individual’s needs, which may involve highly complex scenarios reflective in our patient population.”
