"Cancer Treatment Centers of America is known for providing compassionate care for the entire patient, not just their cancer. I admired the team-based approach to patient care, and knew I wanted to be a part of that team."

Dr. David Boyd
Intake Physician

Dr. Boyd joined Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Western Regional Medical Center (Western) in August 2012 as an intake physician. “I review prior medical records before the patient arrives at our door,” says Dr. Boyd on his role at CTCA. “I then conduct a thorough history and physical exam, and order any laboratory or imaging studies that may be pertinent. This is all completed prior to the patient being evaluated by our oncologist, so that we can make the most of a patient’s time at CTCA.”

A fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and member the Society of Hospital Medicine, Dr. Boyd received a bachelor of science degree from Florida International University, where he graduated with honors. After earning a medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine, Dr. Boyd completed a family medicine residency at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)/St. Francis Medical Center in Richmond.

Prior to joining CTCA, Dr. Boyd was in private group practice, caring for patients both in the hospital and clinic setting. He served as an associate professor of family medicine at VCU School of Medicine, where he was awarded the 2011 Pfizer Teacher Development Award for his dedication to medical education, and performed on-air broadcast on health tips and disease prevention for WBBT NBC 12 Health Watch in Richmond.

Dr. Boyd has been published in Medical Economics and the Journal of Urgent Care Medicine. Throughout his career, he has given on-air television interviews for both NBC and CBS news affiliates. He has also given community presentations on wellness and cancer prevention.

In his free time, Dr. Boyd enjoys hiking, travel, photography, watchmaking and spending time with family.
