"I joined Cancer Treatment Centers of America because of the Patient Empowered Care® model. I believe this method helps the patient enjoy a more seamless and less stressful visit. Also, the communication among the providers is enhanced when everyone is working together under one roof."
Sara Schumacher, MS, RD
Clinical Oncology Dietitian
Sara Schumacher, a registered dietitian with Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Western Regional Medical Center (Western), earned a BS in biochemistry from the University of Nebraska, and then went on to receive a master of science in nutrition from Arizona State University.
Prior to joining CTCA in April 2012, Schumacher served as a diet representative for a hospital in Scottsdale, and was also a nutrition educator with the Arizona Nutrition Network. She is an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
“I feel that it is very important to be a resource of accurate nutrition for my patients,” says Schumacher, who implemented a new “Recipe of the Week” posting that is featured in the outpatient, imaging and radiation waiting rooms at Western. “I also strive to form nurturing, trusting relationships with all of my patients.”
In her free time, Schumacher enjoys doing kickboxing and yoga, as well as spending time with her family and friends.
