Dr. Lena Suhaila is an important member of a Patient Empowered Care® team at our suburban Phoenix hospital. In October 2011, she joined our integrative team of medical, radiation and surgical oncologists, as well as nutrition, mind-body medicine and other cancer treatment providers.
A naturopathic physician, Dr. Suhaila provides recommendations for herbal medicine, vitamins, minerals, homeopathics and other natural therapies that help patients experience a better quality of life as they undergo cancer treatment.
“I use evidence-based naturopathic medicine to decrease the side effects of conventional cancer therapies and optimize the immune system. In cancer, patients face a tough fight. By easing the burden of that fight, naturopathic medicine helps them to carry on,” says Dr. Suhaila.
Dr. Suhaila earned a doctorate degree in naturopathic medicine from the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. She then completed an integrative naturopathic residency at Lokahi Health Center in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from the University of California Santa Barbara, as well as an advanced homeopathy certificate from the New England School of Homeopathy.
Dr. Suhaila is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, Society for Integrative Oncology and the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians. She has been published in the Natural Medicine Journal and Naturopathic Doctor News & Review.
Her interests include spending time in nature, Vipassana meditation, volunteering, yoga and organic gardening.
