"Here at Cancer Treatment Centers of America, it’s all about the patient. People go out of their way to make sure our patients receive the treatment and the care they need."

Danielle Bach, MS, RD
Clinical Oncology Dietitian

Danielle Bach understands the importance of nutrition therapy for cancer patients. She joined Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Western Regional Medical Center (Western) to pursue her dual passion for nutrition and oncology. Her aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer in the 1990s, and did not have all of the resources available to her under one roof like CTCA has to offer. Bach believes that her aunt may have had a better quality of life if she was able to receive this type of care.

“Cancer patients undergoing treatment can have as little as a 5 percent change in their body weight and, as a result, they are at risk for delaying treatment,” says Bach. “At CTCA, our patients see a dietitian from day one to help them manage any side effects from treatment and reduce the likelihood of significant weight changes.”

Bach is a strong believer in the Patient Empowered Care® approach to treating patients at CTCA. “All of the clinicians work together in one area and the patient stays in one room," she says. "I think this allows for better communication and less room for error. I like how the patient can feel empowered, because they’re given choices regarding their treatment.”

A member of the American Society for Paraenternal and Enternal Nutrition, Bach’s goal is to be a resource in a world that is full of health information and medical advice, especially for cancer patients. “There’s a lot of health information out there and it can be confusing and overwhelming," she says. "I want to make sure my patients have all of their questions answered and are provided with evidence-based nutrition information.”

A registered dietitian, Bach attended Florida State University, where she earned a master of science degree in clinical nutrition and a bachelor of science in dietetics. In her spare time, Bach enjoys hiking, running and riding her bicycle.
