Dr. Andrew Goldstein
Thoracic Surgeon

A thoracic surgeon with Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Western Regional Medical Center (Western), Dr. Andrew Goldstein performs chest surgery using various techniques, including state-of-the-art, minimally invasive procedures such as video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). His scope includes patients with lung cancer – both early stage and late stage – as well as patients with malignant pleural effusions, mediastinal tumors and other thoracic malignancies.

Dr. Goldstein earned a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Brown University. He then worked as a mechanical engineer with Rockwell International in the NASA Space Shuttle Orbiter Division, where he designed computerized models of the Shuttle’s hydraulic flight control system. Inspired by the potential to adapt his scientific background to medicine, he then earned his doctor of medicine degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. He completed a general surgery residency at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, and a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Yale University School of Medicine.

After completing his training, Dr. Goldstein was an assistant professor of surgery and an attending cardiothoracic surgeon at The Ohio State University Medical Center and Arthur James Cancer Hospital. He has been in private practice in the Phoenix area since 2002 to be close to his large, extended family.

Active in research, prior to coming to CTCA, Dr. Goldstein served as the principal and co-investigator on numerous clinical and laboratory projects. He has completed original papers and book chapters about both thoracic and cardiac surgery. Dr. Goldstein has given major presentations for the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs, Society of Thoracic Surgeons and academic centers.

Dr. Goldstein is board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. He has been named a Top Doctor, Cardiac Surgery and Thoracic Surgery in Phoenix Magazine in 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008 and 2006. Dr. Goldstein was also voted a Top Doctor, Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery, in U.S. News and World Reports in 2012 and 2011.

Active in community service, Dr. Goldstein volunteers for the Center for Humane Living in Phoenix, and was a big brother for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Columbus. When it comes to free time, his wife and three children come first. Dr. Goldstein also enjoys guitar, woodworking and playing sports.
