The Outpatient Accommodations Department at CTCA at Western Regional Medical Center (Western) strives to continually improve your hospital experience by offering unique amenities, such as an outpatient pharmacy, library, and salon, as well as a variety of stress-reducing programs.
Our Outpatient Accommodations team also promotes social activity outside of the hospital in the form of organized group outings. Guest activity calendars can be found at the Concierge desk in the lobby and the Outpatient Accommodations desk on the second floor.
Director of Outpatient Accommodations Merrilee Zavaski explains: “We are here to meet the needs of each and every patient. We are all just one big family here. Our department offers a variety of programs to keep our guests entertained and satisfied during their stay with us.”
The Outpatient Accommodations team can be found at the concierge desk as well as the Outpatient Accommodations offices, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The office offers additional hours Sunday through Thursday evening. The team is also on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Outpatient Accommodations Services Provided
After settling in at Western, you will find a card in your room inviting you to our weekly focus group. This meeting is a great place to connect with other cancer patients and caregivers.
In addition, we highly value your feedback during this time so we can continually improve your experience at the hospital. Many programs have been changed or added based on patient suggestions during focus groups.
Outings
We understand that it can be difficult to be away from home during the cancer treatment process. To make your visit as pleasant as possible, the Outpatient Accommodations Department offers organized outings every month and a shopping shuttle every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Comfort Rounds
If you are staying in the hospital as an in- or outpatient, the Outpatient Accommodations team, along with representatives from other departments, will visit you twice a week during "Comfort Rounds." The purpose of these visits is to make sure you and your caregivers are as comfortable as possible and that your needs are being met.
Library
On the second floor of the hospital, you will find the patient library stocked with numerous leisure books. You may take a book and return it at your convenience. If you are in the middle of a book and you are going back home between treatments, we encourage you to continue reading it at home. The library also provides computers and a printer. It is open 24 hours, every day of the week.
Patient Advocate
You will be assigned a patient advocate who meets with you during your initial visit. Patient advocates strive to ensure that you are satisfied with your experience and that your questions are answered. This person possesses a wealth of information to assist you with anything you need.
Concierge Service
A member of our concierge team can assist you with various tasks such as mailing a letter or package, faxing and copying services, car rentals, restaurant recommendations and reservations, onsite dry cleaning and car washing, and trip planning. The concierge also assists the Transportation Department with your luggage (and wheelchair, if you have one).
H.O.P.E. Team (Volunteer Program)
The H.O.P.E. Team at Western is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which offers special group outings and visits by Western's Therapy Paws canine volunteers, among other initiatives. The H.O.P.E. Team also accepts financial and in-kind donations to support guest activities and outings. For information on volunteering or donating, email the team at hopeteam@ctca-hope.com.
Gift Shop
The gift shop is located on the first floor and offers books, magazines, jewelry, clothing, footwear, and more. Within the gift shop, you will also find the retail pharmacy.
Salon
If you need a haircut, manicure, pedicure, wig selection and maintenance, or makeup services, the Salon – Salon del Sol - is just the place for you. You will also find hats, soft head coverings, post-surgical bras, breast forms and prosthetics, compression garments, swimwear, and gift items here. Our stylists offer free initial consultations and portable services to inpatients and all patients in the infusion area.
Outpatient Accommodations
Western offers onsite accommodations for outpatients and their caregivers at a reasonable rate. Each room comes equipped with a compact refrigerator and freezer, a CD/radio alarm clock with soothing nature sounds, and a flat-screen television. From the television, you can access free movies, music, relaxation videos, and patient education videos. Most rooms also boast views of the Estrella or White Tank Mountains. Down the hall is a laundry room and game closet stocked with puzzles, board games and card decks.
Transportation
If you are traveling to Western from out-of-town, the first CTCA staff member you meet may be a member of our Transportation Department. These caring individuals transfer you to and from the airport, and to offsite medical appointments and special outings.
