Treatments – Brachytherapy and TomoTherapy®
This video features Dr. James Flynn and Dr. Douglas Kelly, radiation oncologists at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The doctors talk about two of the leading radiation treatments for cancer offered at CTCA: High-Dose Rate (HDR) brachytherapy and TomoTherapy®.
“The major differences between external radiation and brachytherapy are with external radiation, like TomoTherapy®, you have the radiation coming from the outside into the tumor,” explains Dr. Kelly. “With brachytherapy, we put a catheter into the tumor and a radioactive pellet goes into the catheter. You’re radiating the tumor from the inside out.”
The radiation oncologists also discuss how TomoTherapy® and HDR brachytherapy may be used to treat lung cancer.
