Lynette Bisconti - Well, I wasn’t really a fighter to begin with. When I first started this whole process I told my mom, dying would be so much easier than the work I am going to have to go through to save my life.
It took me about four or five months before I started to say ‘I can do this’ and ‘I can fight this’ but my will to live was so strong, it became an obsession. I had to live. I HAD to live, and then I was willing to do anything in order to do that.
With cancer, you have all kinds of choices to make and none of them are fun choices and none of them are good choices, and yes, your initial choice is ‘am I going to be a passive participant, or an active participant?’
I chose - my choice was to be an active participant and what I would say to somebody who just doesn’t think that they have that in them to fight right now, I didn’t either, but look at what you have in this very moment and enjoy it and cherish it. Don’t give it up and want it, and your fight will come.
A family friend, who had cancer 15 years earlier, he gave me an 800 number that he had saved for 15 years. So I called this 800 number, not knowing who I was calling, and the woman on the other end of the phone answered the phone - ‘Cancer Treatment Centers of America’.
