Dr. Leon Yoder: How do you treat bile duct tumors? Surgery is still the best treatment. If we can localize the bile duct tumor in one lobe of the liver, oftentimes, that lobe can be removed, and the bile duct cancer is treated. But if the bile duct cancer involves both lobes of the liver, then surgery may not be an option. Then the treatment would have to be chemotherapy. And now we're also using PDT, which is a laser-type of treatment, that we're directing energy waves up into the bile ducts, and these energy waves actually heat and destroy the cancer cells in the bile ducts. And that's one of the newer ways that Cancer Treatment Centers of America is treating bile duct tumors.
