TomoTherapy® for Vaginal Cancer
Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) offers TomoTherapy® Highly Integrated Adaptive Radiotherapy (HI-ART) as a new radiation therapy option for vaginal cancer treatment.
The TomoTherapy® HI-ART system helps to improve vaginal cancer radiation therapy by integrating several leading technologies into one single machine. This system combines the targeting power of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) with the accuracy of CT scanning technology, as well as advanced tools for radiotherapy planning and delivery.
TomoTherapy® HI-ART enables CTCA radiation oncologists to:
- Sculpt small and highly-targeted beams of radiation at vaginal tumors from a full 360 degrees
- Confirm the exact shape and location of a tumor (with built-in CT scanning) seconds before your treatment begins
- Target vaginal cancer tumors that are located in hard-to-reach areas
- Lessen treatment-related side effects by reducing radiation exposure to healthy surrounding tissue
TomoTherapy® HI-ART uses IMRT to project thin, precise beams of radiation from a full 360 degrees. This makes it possible to hit tumors located in hard-to-reach or particularly sensitive areas.
The TomoTherapy® HI-ART system also uses built-in CT scanning technology to improve the accuracy of vaginal cancer treatment. This feature allows your CTCA radiation therapy team to determine the exact location of the tumor seconds before your treatment begins, which is important in case the tumor shifted or changed shape since your last treatment.
Furthermore, using TomoTherapy® HI-ART for vaginal cancer treatment helps target vaginal cancer tumors with improved accuracy and power, while helping to spare nearby healthy tissue and organs.
If you are a vaginal cancer patient who has already reached your maximum tolerated dose of traditional radiation, or whose tumor is in a hard-to-reach area, TomoTherapy® HI-ART may be a promising alternative to traditional radiotherapy.
