MRI for Vaginal Cancer

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is one of the innovative and non-invasive diagnostic technologies the experts at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) use to precisely map the location of vaginal cancer in your body. By precisely pinpointing the location and size of the tumor, and whether or not the cancer has spread to other areas of your body, MRI is a valuable way to help CTCA radiologists stage your vaginal cancer. MRI is also more accurate than x-rays or CT scanning at detecting cancer.

Most MRI systems consist of a large, life-sized cylindrical magnet. When a patient is placed inside the MRI system, a body scan is performed. Instead of using x-rays, MRI uses powerful electromagnetic radiation to capture highly-accurate, cross-sectional images of your body’s soft tissue, to distinguish between healthy and diseased tissue.

By using MRI to understand where vaginal cancer occurs in your body, your CTCA care team can customize your vaginal cancer treatment to your unique needs and cancer stage, and ultimately determine the most appropriate vaginal cancer treatment plan for you.
