Extreme Drug Resistance for Vaginal Cancer

If you are considering chemotherapy as a vaginal cancer treatment, Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) offers the Extreme Drug Resistance (EDR) Assay (or Chemoresistance). The EDR Assay helps test how you are likely to respond to specific chemotherapeutic drugs.

Designed for patients who have solid vaginal cancer tumors, the EDR tests whether or not your tumor cells are able to grow when exposed to high doses of specific chemotherapy drugs. If your tumor cells are resistant to a particular drug in this assay, then the vaginal cancer tumor itself is also likely to be resistant to that drug.

By testing for drug resistance prior to initiating therapy, the Extreme Drug Resistance Assay can help CTCA physicians avoid unnecessary toxicity to you, minimize costs, and consider alternate protocols for your vaginal cancer treatment.
