Uterine Cancer Treatment: Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy involves the use of drugs to treat uterine cancer, which is also known as cancer of the uterus. Often called "anticancer" drugs, chemotherapy drugs destroy uterine (endometrial) cancer cells by interfering with their ability to grow and reproduce. Chemotherapy drugs are given intravenously, by injection or by mouth.
Some patients who undergo chemotherapy for uterine cancer experience side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, hair loss and mouth sores. However, at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), we use new approaches to chemotherapy that can help reduce or moderate these side effects. One such way is through fractionated-dose chemotherapy, which administers chemotherapy drugs in smaller and more manageable doses over a longer period of time, instead of all at once. This innovative approach is particularly effective at helping to prevent nausea and vomiting.
