Uterine Cancer Information

There are three types of uterine cancer, all which affect the female uterus. It is important to note that cancer of the lower portion of the uterus (the cervix) is called cervical cancer. It is diagnosed and treated in a different manner.

Of the other two types, uterine sarcoma (cancerous tumors in the muscle of the uterus) is extremely rare. The most common type of uterine cancer is called endometrial cancer, because it occurs within the lining of the uterus, called the endometrium. A Pap test, also called a Pap smear, enables your doctor to view cells from your cervix through a microscope and determine if there are precancerous or cancerous cells in the lower part of your uterus. However, because cancer of the endometrium begins inside the uterus, it does not usually show up on a Pap test.

If you have been diagnosed with uterine cancer, you should know that Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) provides you with the options and tools you need to focus on healing. Treatment for uterine cancer depends on the stage of the disease, the location and size of the tumor, your age and general health, as well as other factors your doctor will discuss with you.

We use many tools to help you fight uterine cancer on all fronts at CTCA. A powerful combination of traditional and new, innovative therapies are provided by our cancer experts, who work with you to determine the appropriate combination of therapies. Uterine cancer treatments that may be recommended include:

  • Fractionated-Dose Chemotherapy: In this chemotherapy treatment, a powerful dose of chemo drugs is divided into smaller doses, given over a number of days. This approach exposes uterine cancer cells to the drugs for a longer period of time, while also seeking to reduce the unpleasant side effects often experienced with larger chemo doses.
  • Uterine Cancer Surgery: This is often performed to remove tumors in the uterus, whenever practical, and to prevent future complications.

In addition to the uterine cancer treatments described above, CTCA enriches your treatment by offering complementary/alternative therapies, such as naturopathic medicine, nutritional therapy, mind-body medicine, image enhancement and spiritual counseling.

CTCA is with you every step of the way in what truly is the fight of your life.
