Our representatives are here for you 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and will help you learn more about the innovative uterine cancer treatment options available to you at CTCA.

The Three Types of Uterine Cancer

Uterine cancer is a cancer that forms in tissues of the uterus (womb). The uterus is a small, hollow, pear-shaped organ in a woman's pelvis in which a baby grows. There are three different types of uterine cancer: cervical cancer, endometrial cancer and uterine sarcoma.

Cervical cancer is a cancer that begins in the lining of the cervix. The cervix is the lower part of the uterus, and connects the body of the uterus to the vagina (birth canal). Cervical cancers do not form suddenly; normal cervical cells gradually develop pre-cancerous changes that turn into cancer. There are two main types of cervical cancers: squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma.

The other two varieties of cancer that affect the uterus fall under the general name of uterine cancer. One of the uterine cancer types is referred to as endometrial cancer, which is a cancer that begins in cells lining the uterus. The other type of uterine cancer is called uterine sarcoma, which is a rare cancer that begins in the muscle and supporting tissues of the uterus.
