Many people who receive treatment for cancer at our hospitals like to share their stories. They recall when they first received a cancer diagnosis, the first time they met with their team of experienced doctors and other clinicians, what it was like to go through cancer treatment, and what their life is like today as a survivor of cancer. Gary Hackney is one of our cancer survivors. In 2006, he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Below is a brief excerpt from his personal story.

"We met with so many people on my first day at Cancer Treatment Centers of America. When I met with my oncologist, Dr. Petra Ketterl, she immediately knew what was wrong with me. She explained that I had severe lymphedema. Dr. Ketterl ordered therapy right away to help get my lymphedema under control. The pain management team also helped me to deal with the pain."
