TomoTherapy® for Testicular Cancer
TomoTherapy® is one of the most advanced radiation therapies available. Your care team at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) may discuss this option with you if you have reached your maximum dosage of traditional radiation, or if your tumor is in a hard-to-reach area.
Before every testicular cancer TomoTherapy treatment, your radiation team performs a CT scan to capture a 3D image of the tumor and its surroundings. Next, we make technical adjustments to more accurately align the treatment plan with the exact size and position of the tumor on that day. This helps to ensure that the radiation beams target the cancer as much as possible, avoiding healthy tissue and organs.
During your radiation treatment, we will adjust the direction, intensity and shape of the beams in real time. TomoTherapy uses a revolutionary “slice therapy” approach, which treats tumors one layer at a time. This means variable amounts of radiation can be delivered to different parts of a tumor.
With testicular cancer TomoTherapy treatments, your CTCA radiation therapy team can:
- Deliver precise and powerful doses of radiation from a complete circumference of 360 degrees.
- Hit hard-to-reach tumors by sculpting small, powerful and precise radiation beams.
- Reduce radiation exposure to healthy surrounding tissue by confirming the shape and position of the tumor seconds before your treatment begins.
