TomoTherapy® is a promising new form of radiotherapy available for stomach cancer treatment at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA). If your stomach tumor is located in a hard-to-reach area, or if you have already reached your maximum tolerance dosage of conventional radiotherapy, our cancer doctors may recommend TomoTherapy® as a stomach cancer treatment for you.

The TomoTherapy® Highly Integrated Adaptive Radiotherapy (HI-ART) System® is unique because it combines leading-edge tools for radiation therapy planning and delivery into a single machine. It blends an advanced form of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) with the accuracy of CT scanning technology.

TomoTherapy® enables radiation oncologists at CTCA to:

  • Hit hard-to-reach cancerous stomach tumors through powerful and precisely sculpted beams of radiation
  • Apply built-in CT scanning to confirm the exact shape and position of your stomach tumor seconds before your treatment begins, helping to improve targeting and accuracy
  • Lessen the risk of side effects by reducing exposure to healthy surrounding tissue, often dramatically

Traditional radiation therapies project radiation on a stomach tumor only from a few directions. But with TomoTherapy® HI-ART, your CTCA radiation therapy team can deliver powerful, precise doses of radiation therapy onto a stomach tumor from 360 degrees. This makes TomoTherapy® especially useful for treating stomach cancer tumors that are located in sensitive or hard-to-reach areas.

An on-board CT scanner also improves targeting by helping your CTCA care team determine if your tumor has shifted or changed shape since your last stomach cancer treatment. Gathered just minutes before your radiation therapy begins, this information allows your radiation oncologist to plan your stomach cancer treatment to better avoid radiation beams from damaging surrounding healthy tissue and organs.

To learn if TomoTherapy® is a stomach cancer treatment option that may work for you, call or click to chat with an Oncology Information Specialist today. He or she can help you to schedule a consultation at a CTCA facility.
