Cancer Treatment Centers of America: Stomach Cancer Symptoms

According to the National Cancer Institute, stomach (gastric) cancer symptoms are rarely detected when the stomach cancer is still in its early stages. Too often, by the time someone recognizes stomach cancer, the cancer has already spread beyond the stomach. Many people tend to ignore stomach cancer symptoms, perhaps because so many of us are accustomed to having stomach ailments from time to time.

Among the possible stomach cancer symptoms to be aware of include:

  • Heartburn
  • Indigestion
  • Pain or vague discomfort in the abdomen (often above the navel)
  • Bloating of the stomach after eating
  • Nausea
  • Lack of appetite
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Fatigue, weakness
  • Blood in the stool or vomit
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach pain

Please keep in mind that the above stomach cancer symptoms may be caused by a health problem or condition other than cancer. If you experience any of these potential stomach cancer symptoms for a prolonged period of time, or in combination, it is important that you notify your doctor. Only a doctor can determine if the potential stomach cancer symptoms you are experiencing are due to stomach cancer or another, less serious health condition.
