Autologous Stem Cell Rescue Available at Cancer Treatment Centers of America

The experts at Cancer Treatment Centers of America offer autologous (from the self) bone marrow transplant and stem cell rescue as one of many treatment options for several types of cancer. This stem cell treatment uses your own bone marrow and peripheral stem cells to overcome the bone marrow destroying effects of high dose chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

CTCA: Stem Cell Rescue

The bone marrow transplant procedure involves giving you high-dose chemotherapy, with or without radiation, to kill cancer cells. This is called conditioning. The conditioning regimen also destroys normal bone marrow cells (stem cell), requiring the replacement of these cells.

After the conditioning is completed, you will be "rescued" by the infusion of healthy stem cells, which have been collected from either your own body (prior to chemotherapy), or from the body of a donor. Stem cells can be collected from the circulating blood or from bone marrow. The transplant occurs when these healthy stem cells are given back to you, in the case of autologous stem cell rescue, or to you from a donor.
