Tumor Molecular Profiling for Spinal Cancer
Our goal at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) is to develop a spinal cancer treatment plan that is personalized to you. We perform tumor molecular profiling to identify chemotherapy drugs best suited to your needs—before we administer them.
During a biopsy, we’ll collect a sample of cerebrospinal fluid. Then, we’ll examine the sample for a variety of biomarkers in the DNA of the tissue. This helps us identify which chemotherapy drugs may have the greatest effect and which are likely to be ineffective.
Some potential advantages of tumor molecular profiling for spinal cancer include:
- By testing drugs outside of the body, we can avoid unnecessary toxicity to you.
- By identifying more effective drugs, we can target cancerous spinal tumors as aggressively as possible from the start.
Tumor molecular profiling may be a promising option for spinal cancer patients when standard therapy has failed.
