Our mind-body therapists provide counseling, support groups, and other therapies to help you and your loved ones cope with the challenges of spinal cancer.
Mind-Body Medicine for Spinal Cancer
Many spinal cancer patients struggle emotionally with the disease and the challenges of treatment. The tumor’s direct effects on the spine can also cause neurological impairments and changes in your appearance (e.g., hunchback posture) that are distressing.
The mind-body medicine team at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) can help you and your loved ones cope with emotional and psychological stresses throughout spinal cancer treatment.
Spinal Cancer Counseling & Support Groups
During your first visit to CTCA, you (and your loved ones) will have the option to meet with a licensed mind-body therapist who will listen to your concerns and explain how mind-body medicine can fit into the healing process.
For example, many spinal cancer patients feel anxious, depressed, or have difficulty concentrating. Your caregivers and other loved ones are likely dealing with their own set of concerns. There are often practical concerns too, such as work and financial pressures.
The following mind-body therapy services are available to patients and their loved ones throughout treatment:
- Individual counseling for patients and/or caregivers
- Marital/couple/partner counseling
- Family counseling
- Counseling for children and adolescents
- Relaxation and guided imagery
- Stress management
- Laughter/humor therapy
- Meditation
- Heart Math (for anxiety)
- Auriculotherapy
- Psycho-educational classes to address particular issues
Once your treatment is complete and you return home, our mind-body therapy team can connect you and your caregivers with practitioners in your area.
