The GE Discovery PET/CT 600 scanner can detect lesions down to 2.8 mm and better delineate boundaries than a traditional PET/CT scanner. This allows our physicians to find cancerous tissue earlier and save viable tissue from radiation exposure. In addition, the scanner has respiratory gating capabilities, adding detail and clarity to areas that are subject to motion, such as the heart and lungs. By capturing images with detail and precision, this technology allows our physicians to diagnose and stage tumors with improved accuracy so we can develop a more precise treatment plan for patients. The scanner also has software that memorizes and overlays lesions so differences can be detected from appointment to appointment.
