Director of Medical Oncology at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) at Southwestern Regional Medical Center, Dr. Theodore Pollock brings over 30 years of oncology experience to people fighting cancer at CTCA®. He treats a number of malignancies, with a particular focus on lung cancer.
Dr. Pollock is board certified and a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists (FACOI). Before attending medical school, he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina. In 1973, Dr. Pollock earned an osteopathic medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. He then completed an internship and residency at Doctors Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, as well as a medical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. While there, Dr. Pollock was also a clinical instructor of medicine at Cornell Medical College.
After his fellowship, Dr. Pollock returned to Columbus, Ohio, where he spent years providing care to cancer patients in a private practice setting. He also held several appointments at Doctors Hospital. He served as Chief of the Department of Medicine’s Section of Clinical Oncology, Medical Director of Breast Health Services, Chairman of the Tumor Board and the Medical Resident Training Program, and Senior Attending Physician of the Department of Medicine’s Section of Oncology.
In addition, Dr. Pollock served as Vice Chairman on the Board of Trustees and Clinical Research Committee Chairman for the Columbus Community Oncology Program in Columbus, Ohio. He has also published numerous research papers on topics involving colorectal, bladder, gastric, pancreatic and head and neck cancers.
In July 2008, Dr. Pollock joined the Medical Oncology Department at CTCA at Southwestern Regional Medical Center. Dr. Pollock says he is impressed with the staff’s team spirit. “CTCA really does have a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of malignancies,” he says.
Dr. Pollock, who also serves as the hospital’s Vice Chief of Staff, says he also values the shared commitment of CTCA clinicians to provide compassionate, patient-centered care to people fighting cancer. “Patients at CTCA are empowered and play an integral part in the decision making for their care,” he says.
Dr. Pollock is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Osteopathic Association and American Society of Clinical Oncology.
