For years, Sara Gomendi was interested in working with cancer patients, and knew she wanted to bring her focus on naturopathic medicine into an oncology setting. Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) provided an ideal environment for that goal. “The truly integrative treatment approach and the patient empowerment model that is the foundation of CTCA is unique, yet vitally important in the treatment of such a disease,” says Gomendi.
Gomendi obtained a doctorate in naturopathic medicine in 2012 at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, in Tempe, Arizona. Immediately upon graduation, Gomendi joined CTCA as a first-year resident, joining the team of comprehensive care providers at CTCA’s Oklahoma location. She offers support to cancer patients using integrative and lifestyle therapies to improve comfort and quality of life.
Gomendi obtained a bachelor of science, magna cum laude, at the University of Wyoming, in Laramie, in 2008. She focused her studies on family and consumer sciences, with an emphasis on nutrition and food science. At the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, Gomendi completed accredited programs in botanical, nutritional, homeopathic, Oriental, and physical medicine, as well as in hydrotherapy. She also dedicated extensive study to integrative oncology.
She is President of the Oklahoma Association of Naturopathic Physicians (OKANP) and a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians. She is certified in Reiki levels 1 and 2. She has devoted her spare time to volunteering with the Make-a-Wish Foundation, the Children’s Miracle Network, and with local hospice facilities.
For Gomendi, joining CTCA is a natural extension of her passion for an integrative approach to cancer care. “CTCA doesn’t feel like a standard hospital,” says Gomendi. “The compassion and positive attitudes create such an uplifting environment for patients and their caregivers.”
Outside of her work, Gomendi enjoys outdoor activities, visiting museums, and attending the ballet, and is a self-proclaimed animal lover.
